The
Red Cross/Red Crescent Society Bio:
I am
the founder, lead developer and lead programmer for Perl
Services. I have been learning and perfecting my craft
(Perl) by developing and implementing real world solutions for
web based CGI applications since 1997. I started out by learning
HTML but then quickly moved on to the challenges and rewards of
Perl. In 1997, I started the popular Charity-Ware
site. Tens of thousands of site visitors have downloaded over
100,000 copies of my Charity-Ware
programs. My current skill set includes Perl, SQL, MySQL,
Relational Database Modeling, HTML, CSS and a smattering of
JavaScript.
My founding principles in launching Perl
Services was that all clients would be treated equally and
no job would be turned away for being too small. When I started
in web design, I found most programmers never answered my
requests for quotes or requests for service. Most of them never
even responded at all. This was the driving force that made me
want to do things differently. My business ethics are built on
the old world business values of honesty, integrity and truth. A
lot of hard lessons have been learned along the way. I want to
be known as the person who gives his clients straight answers
without the fancy footwork of the two-step masters.
I was born and raised on Canada's east coast. I am thirty-six
years old. I moved to Toronto in 1986 and now live in the town
of Pefferlaw which is nestled on Crown Land about seventy-five
minutes north of Toronto, Ontario. Since 1988, I had been a
dispatcher and 9-1-1 operator for the Toronto Police Service
(AKA "Carlton"). I left the service in 2000 to start
programming full time. Wearing a double hat, I am also the
Director of Programming for Robinson
Internet Solutions, which has offices in Southern California
and in Sunnyvale (Silicon Valley) California.
