My Downloader
A quick and easy script to
implement and use. Simply set a few variables in the script,
then load and CHMOD three files.
OverviewThis
program allows you to control and monitor the downloading of
files from your web site. The script forces people to enter a
name and e-mail address before they can download the file they
want.
This allows you to monitor the
files to see which are most popular and which are least
popular. This way you will know what not to waste your time on
and what sort of file people are most interested in.
This script is very easy to use
even though it may look complicated. When you first install
the script you run the setup routine to establish a UserID and
Password. Next, the admin page allows you to enter the
pertinent information to a file that exists on your server.
After that, when someone clicks
on a download link on your page, they will be taken to the
programs download page which provides information on all the
files available and then collects the user data. When the user
chooses a file and submits their information, they are
presented with a confirmation page. After have confirmed the
file they want and the information they entered they are taken
to a thank you page which provides the actual download link.
This script has only been tested
on a Unix server and requires two directories, one is in the cgi-bin/cgi
directory on your server, the other is in a separate directory.
Even if you can run scripts anywhere on your server I still
recommend you use separate directories for the scripts and data
files.
There are three files with this
program.
Administration Options
From the administration page you
can add new files, delete files you don't want and update the
information on current files. You can also choose to view the
download log which will show the name, e-mail, file downloaded,
date and time of each download that has taken place. All are
very easy to use and fully explained. Each of these options
(except viewing the log) requires the entry of your UserID and
Password.
Passwords are encrypted but this
is not a guarantee of security. Please make sure that you choose
an easy to remember but hard to guess password.
