My
Linktracker
A quick and easy script to
implement and use. Simply set five variables in the "ml_attack.cgi"
file, then load and CHMOD the whole lot.
This script requires two
directories, one is in the cgi-bin/cgi directory on your server,
the other is in a separate directory. Even if you can run
scripts anywhere on your server I still recommend you use
separate directories for the scripts and data files.
My Linktracker uses Attack
Guard V1.1(Revised) for security. There are four files with
this program, you can view the "Readme" file here or
you can download a complete zip
file.
To use this script, on the admin
page you enter the name of the page that you want to track a
link to, then you enter the URL of that page. You can, if you
wish (and I recommend it, from experience), enter the name of
the page the link is coming from. For multiple pages linking
to one page then don't bother naming the from page. The
program will automatically name it a multi page link.
After you have done this and
submitted the information, the program will return a link
number as well as the HTML necessary to use that link. All you
have to do is cut and paste the HTML into the page your
linking from or mail it to the person linking to you.
This is ideal for tracking
links from other sites to yours or tracking your own links to
click-thru or pay-banners that you are part of. That way you
will really know how many hits there were when it comes time
for them to pay you !
Of course, this program is
ideal for tracking links within your own site. All links from
Charity-Wares index page to the product pages are all tracked
with My Linktracker V1.0.
The reporting right now is
basic, it simply shows the number of hits on each day of a
month and displays a graph for each day of the month, relative
to each other. I will be improving this reporting procedure
over time though so check back one in a while.
You can see a demo
of the admin and reporting pages for this program. The
first page you see is the admin page that shows the total
number of links. If you click on the individual link numbers,
you will see the monthly breakdown of hits. Remeber, this
is a demo only and do not reflect real activity of any pages
on any real server.
